Shri. Mahendra Mohan Gupta sworn in as Rajya Sabha Member

New Delhi, May 10, 2006; Shri Mahendra Mohan Gupta, Chairman & Managing director of Jagran Prakashan Limited (JPL), publishers of Dainik Jagran, India's largest-selling newspaper, was sworn in as member of the upper house of the Indian Parliament today. Shri Gupta was elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 28, 2006.

He has also been named as one of the fifty most powerful person of the country by India Today.

"This is definitely one of the most prestigious positions of the country. I hope I can serve the people to the best of my abilities and do justice with their expectations. I shall work diligently to discharge my mandate for the common good of the people and accept my responsibility to maintain the public trust reposed in me," said Shri Mahendra Mohan, member, Rajya Sabha.

Media baron Shri Mahendra Mohan is the managing editor of Dainik Jagran and also the chairman of Jagran TV Pvt. Ltd. (Channel 7) and has held various posts of importance in past across various forums/industry associations viz. Director - Press Trust of India, New Delhi, Director - United News of India, New Delhi and Director - Merchant Chambers of UP, Treasurer - Indian Newspapers Society, New Delhi, President (1987-88) Indian Languages Newspapers Association, Mumbai, President (1989-90) Indian Newspaper Society, New Delhi, Member (1984-91) Press Council of India, New Delhi, Chairman (2001-03) United News of India, Delhi, Member (2004-06) Film Censor Board, Mumbai etc. to name a few.

He has been an active member of various social and philanthropic organizations.
