2008: Jagran
Prakashan Limited (JPL), publishers of ‘Dainik Jagran’, India’s largest read newspaper
(Source: IRS 2008 Round 1) has reported operating revenues of Rs 206.49 crores
for Q1FY09, an increase of 12.57% as compared to Rs 183.42 crores in Q1FY08. Total
revenues and net profit for the Q1FY09 was Rs. 212.78 crores and Rs.31.65
crores respectively. The non-annualized EPS for the quarter stood at Rs 1.05
The advertisement revenue increased to Rs 140.00 crores from
Rs 126.74 crores registering growth of 10.47% over the same period. Circulation
revenue increased to Rs. 47.79 crores from 44.17 crores, increase of 8.2% over
Q1FY08.
Newspaper sales of Dainik Jagran in terms of number of
copies sold per day was also higher by 6.7%.
I-next, compact bilingual newspaper was launched in Patna, State Capital of Bihar and Ranchi, State Capital of Jharkhand to take
the total number of editions to 9.
The revenues from other operating activities including
revenues from Outdoor Advertising, Event Management Activity and Short Code
Services increased to Rs. 14.55 crores from Rs.10.67 crores, an increase of
36.36% from corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Commenting on the performance of the company for the quarter
ended 30th June 2008, Mr. Mahendra Mohan Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, JPL said,
“This was a difficult quarter, given the
negative sentiments on all economic front but JPL could still continue to
achieve higher than industry’s overall growth in advertisement revenue. I am
optimistic that the company would end the current fiscal on expected lines and
remain bullish on the industry”.
